SELF PLACED PROGRAM

"A personalized service for your J-1 visa"

The "Self-Placed" Program was developed for applicants that have already found a host company, and the Host Company has offered a Trainee position to the applicant. Once you have a company, you need to find a sponsor organization in order to legally participate in the program.

ITN can provide the following for Self-Placed Trainees:

* DS-2019 for the J-1 visa
* Health Insurance
* Preparation for the Interview at the American Embassy
* Ongoing support throughout program

To participate to the Self-placed Program, you need to:

* Have secured an training with a company in the USA.
* Have at least two years of education, training, or work experience in a field directly related to the proposed training.
* Know English well enough to perform successfully in the proposed training position.
* Plan to leave the U.S. within 30 days after completion of your training.
* Have not held the J-1 Visa in the Internship and Training category less than two years before your application. If previous J-1 Visas were in other categories (e.g. the Secondary School Student or Summer Work/Travel categories) you may apply.

Your Host Company needs to:

* Offer you a training for up to 18 months in one of the following subject fields: Hospitality, Tourism, Information, Media, Communications, Management, Business, Commerce, Finance, or Law.
* Provide you with a structured training program that must both be suitable to your qualifications and background
* Ensure that you engage in training and do not perform work that a part-time or full-time staff member of the company would otherwise be responsible for. As a J-1 Trainee you are not allowed to make final decisions about, or carry the full responsibility for, major tasks, assignments or projects. However, you may provide assistance in such matters since on-the-job training is encouraged as an important learning tool.

How to start the process:

* Complete and submit the ITN online registration
* ITN will immediately e-mail to you further information and will send to your prospective supervisor all materials that your host company needs to complete and return to us. You must send to us your payment of the Sponsorship fee as soon as we have confirmed your registration. If the proposed training program is approved by ITN, you will receive from us your application materials. We will also ask you to give us a call to discuss with us your training arrangements, expectations, and background.
* If your complete application is received and accepted by ITN, we will send to you the DS 2019 form along with visa application forms and important orientation materials.

How long does it take to get a DS-2019?

The processing time at ITN is typically 1-2 weeks. However, the entire application process may take longer, depending on how quickly you and your host company provide ITN with all necessary materials and information.
